On October 29, 2025, the International Workshop on Intelligent Information and Communication Technologies (iW-IICT) came to a successful conclusion in Lecture Hall 1, 2nd Floor, Building B1, Purple Mountain Laboratories, Jiangning District, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province.Hosted by Southeast University and co-organized by Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Nantong University and Purple Mountain Laboratories, the workshop served as a special session of the 2025 Jiangsu Provincial University International Industry-University-Research Cooperation Forum.

Nearly a hundred experts, scholars, industry representatives, faculty and students from China, the United Kingdom, France, the Republic of Korea, Italy, Singapore and other regions gathered at the event. Participants focused on cutting-edge advances in intelligent information and communication technologies, discussing the latest research outcomes of B5G/6G technologies. Targeting intelligent transportation systems, they explored innovative approaches to integrating communication technologies with traffic networks under scenarios including vehicle-road coordination and intelligent scheduling, while fueling deep integration of technological innovation with industry-university-research practices.
Distinguished attendees included Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering Wang Jiangzhou, Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences Hikmet Sari, Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering Yong Xin Guo, Director of the International Cooperation Office of Southeast University Wang Chen, Party Secretary of the School of Information Science and Engineering Zhang Zaichen, Dean Wang Chengxiang, Dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering of Nantong University Yang Yongjie, and Deputy Director of its International Cooperation Office Ming Xiaofeng.
First, Director Wang Chen delivered the opening address. He stated that intelligent information and communication technologies are entering a critical stage of rapid development, and interdisciplinary and cross-border exchanges and cooperation constitute a vital driving force for technological breakthroughs. Bringing together top global scholars and industry elites, this workshop is expected to deliver new ideas and new avenues for innovative development in relevant fields.
Subsequently, a series of academic presentations were delivered by scholars from multiple universities worldwide: Professor Marco Di Renzo (King’s College London), Professor Yong Xin Guo (City University of Hong Kong), Professor Hikmet Sari (Paris-Saclay University), Professor Wang Jiangzhou (Southeast University), Associate Professor Nan Zheng (Monash University), Associate Professor Inhi Kim (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), Associate Professor Junhui Hou, Associate Professor Alex M. H. Wong and Assistant Professor Gengbo Wu (City University of Hong Kong), Associate Professor Sun Shu (Shanghai Jiao Tong University), and Professor Zhao Yanchao (Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics). They shared research findings covering reconfigurable intelligent holographic surfaces, AI-enabled smart healthcare and intelligent chips, the evolution of multiple access technologies in cellular networks, large models for wireless communications, safety assessment and training for autonomous driving, spatial intelligent 3D/4D technologies, electromagnetic wave customization, space-time metasurface antennas, maritime channel modeling, and black-box backdoor defense for Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS). Mr. Zeng Xing from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. shared industrial practices and development plans for intelligent wireless communication algorithms from an industrial perspective.
At the closing roundtable discussion themed "Towards Productive Industry-University-Research Collaboration", presided over by Professor Wu Xiping of Southeast University, five guests including Professor Hikmet Sari, Professor Wang Jiangzhou, Professor Marco Di Renzo, Professor Yong Xin Guo and Mr. Zeng Xing held in-depth discussions on four major topics: industry-university-research cooperation experience and policies across countries, regions and universities, optimization suggestions for cooperation models, application prospects of large AI models in future wireless communication and information systems, and the positioning of universities in the development of large models. All guests recognized that large models serve as a powerful enabler for upgrading communication technologies, and emphasized that universities should prioritize fundamental theoretical innovation and interdisciplinary talent cultivation.
The successful holding of this workshop has built an efficient exchange and cooperation platform for scholars and industrial practitioners engaged in intelligent information and communication technologies at home and abroad, facilitating the sharing and transformation of cutting-edge research results. It also strengthened profound linkages among universities, research institutes and enterprises, laying a solid foundation for improving the international industry-university-research cooperation system of universities in Jiangsu Province.
